My recent beading activity

November 04, 2009 By: Valen Category: Rambles No Comments →

Just a quick update about my beading activity. I had done quite a number of projects last week; had never been so ‘productive’ before when it comes to beading! Haha!

I thought I would be occupied by a writing assignment last week, but was not able to start working on it as I am yet to receive the relevant materials from the client. Thanks to that I actually had time for several bracelets, earrings and necklace projects. You see, I have so many beads - crystals, pearls, seed beads, glass beads, charms, etc - that I have run out of boxes to keep them! So, to get rid of them, I have to keep coming up with various beaded jewelry projects, turning them into something wearable or collectible, otherwise it would be meaningless to have those beads, wouldn’t it? :)

After I have enough number of handmade beaded jewelry pieces under my collection, I will start selling them. Make some money, buy more beads, make more beaded jewelry - that’s my plan. :)

While the writing assignment I mentioned earlier is still pending, I received another assignment yesterday. I will try to take photos of my completed beading projects tomorrow before I commence my assignment. Hopefully I will be able to ’squeeze’ some time from work to post the photos of my beading projects before this week comes to its end. Keep my finger crossed!

I’m a poor bead organizer…

Almost 2 weeks have passed since my last update (this time the gap’s shorter, haha!), I did get a couple of bracelet and earrings projects done. They are basically projects using simple wire works linking beads together. But I am just lazy to snap photos of the three jewelry projects; plan to produce another couple more bracelets before I put on my photographer cap. ;)

I guess I won’t be able to get anything done this week, coz I have assignments to submit, perhaps a festive party to attend, and parents in law to entertain this weekend…

Most importantly, before I proceed to start a new beading project, I seriously need to get my bead supplies and jewelry making tools organized! I kept buying beads and stuffs but never take the time to organize them into containers and boxes. Well, I didn’t even have anything to store them until last week!

Finally bought some small portable plastic boxes with drawers and some round bead containers last week. The next step is to send all my beads and crystals into their respective ‘homes’. Not forgetting the pliers, needles and threads, findings, hammer, chains, etc. Very soon, I will be ordering an anvil plus more copper wires to start learning wire works. Have to start thinking where to keep them when they arrive…

Okay, after saying so much about how I need to tidy up my beading stuffs, I don’t think I’m gonna get it done this week, haha! Next week it shall be.

10 Quick updates

Just a quick update of what I’ve been doing after I fell sick and got better….

1. Did some bead bidding on eBay; couldn’t resist the nice colors of seed beads. ;P

2. Worked night and day to meet a writing project deadline. (Luckily I didn’t fall sick again!)

3. Phone line broke down, couldn’t access internet to do research for my writing project. So had to go to my mom’s place to access the internet.

4. Phone line still not fixed when I needed to submit my project via email, again, went to my mom’s house.

5. Phone line still not fixed, but it’s time to pay for the bids I won. So this time went to Starbucks to use its WiFi.

6. No project to work on, no internet to surf, finally got started with new beading projects, so I thought. Wanted to make a pair of Christmas tree earrings, but my Christmas tree looked awful! Abandoned the project :P

7. Tried to make some tube spacers out of seed beads using peyote stitch. I hate peyote stitch, can never get it right! My tube didn’t look like how it supposed to be like in the bead magazine. Abandoned this one too.

8. Finally, decided to make a ring, following the exact same steps as with this crystal ring, except that this time I used pearls in light green. At least, I got this one right and nice!

9. Found a local website that sells nice seed beads, including Matsuno beads and Czech glass beads! Jeez, I have to wait a while before I start shopping for beads again. Have spent quite an amount buying beads from eBay.

10. Tonight, I will get on a new bracelet project. Saw a simple pattern from a book while I was in a bookshop yesterday. So simple that I can remember how to do it. :)
